Everton fought hard against Manchester United on Monday evening but ultimately fell to another defeat at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
David Moyes’ side are now winless in seven games at the new stadium, and yesterday’s loss exposed a number of glaring weaknesses.
James Tarkowski’s lack of pace was exposed, and it also became very apparent that Harrison Armstrong isn’t a winger.
Is is time to drop Barry? 😬
Idrissa Gana Gueye also showed clear signs of decline, with the veteran midfielder really struggling since coming back from AFCON.
With that said, Everton fans had a lot to say about Moyes and some of his baffling decisions after the game on TalkingPoints.
Everton fans slam David Moyes for his team selection vs Man United
Moyes received a lot of criticism from supporters last night, with many pointing the blame on him for the defeat.
What would your message to David Moyes be after the loss to United? 😡
He cannot find the answer at the Hill Dickinson…
- “Moyes needs to start giving the young players a chance. How can they impact the game if they don’t get a chance to play? Like Dibbling, he’s a good player just needs more game time.”
- “We lost that match from the starting lineup. No team in the league can play without an attacking fullback now and we didn’t even play a fullback. With Branthwite in the middle, United don’t score that goal.”
- “It’s clear that playing Barry or Beto is a waste of time. Moyes should drop both and give George a run up front with Garner and Dewsbury Hall playing balls through.”
- “League 1 performance on a League 1 pitch. Both poor quality. Got be Moyes problem here. Armstrong isn’t a winger. Branthwaite isn’t a LB. Tarki too slow. KDH lost without Grealish. They play 1 man upfront who can’t trap a trifle. The only certainty is James Garner will be playing Champions League football next year (if he’s any sense).”
- “David Moyes has lost his magic formula of reading the game and making adjustments to the team during the game early not in the last 10 minutes when the lads are losing and chasing the game.”
- “Moyes to blame for not prioritising a striker in the January window.”
After last night’s 1-0 loss, Everton are now projected to finish on 52 points based on their points per game average.
So, the European dream is in jeopardy as they’ll likely have to get around 60 points to be in with a chance of a Conference League finish.
Moyes will have to be a lot bolder in some of his decisions in the remaining 11 games, otherwise it could be a disappointing mid-table season.
Many would argue that is still good progress, as the Toffees finished 13th last term on 48 points.
Is David Moyes doing enough at Everton to earn himself a new contract? 🫣
If not, who would you like to see replace him? 😬
Considering over £100m was shelled out last summer, it would feel slightly underwhelming and Moyes would come under some scrutiny in terms of a new contract.
His current deal is due to expire at the end of next season.
