Everton boast one of the most passionate and supportive fanbases within English football, but are just as quick to turn should someone do something to misalign themselves with the supporters.
After all, given their investment into the club, this can so often spill over into passionate frustration, which will then result in widespread booing and an empty Goodison Park.
Saturday marked a prime example of that, with the score at 3-0 and the hosts with just ten men igniting huge portions of the home crowd to head to the exits early.
It was largely justified after the manner in which they had collapsed, but there was an element of sadness given how admirably they performed in the first half especially.
This anger towards the players, Sean Dyche and everyone else involved did spill over into one or two moments of ugliness, directed at some people who had not quite deserved it.
Everton fans send a message to Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Although Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Everton future remains up in the air, for now, he remains their player.
So, after a tough stint up front where he was once again forced to feed off scraps, his substitution at 2-0 was expected to be a routine one, exchanging him for Beto.

A like-for-like swap up front that has been made so many times before, Goodison Park, or what was left of it, seemingly channelled all their frustration from a torrid day and directed it at the striker, who was met with a mixed reception as he jogged over to the dugout.
In fact, large sections of the crowd even booed him, with the 27-year-old sheepishly clapping towards the Gwladys Street end as he hurried off the pitch.
It seems that the home crowd have made their mind up on the exit-linked striker, whose reported inability to negotiate a deal with Newcastle United prevented the Toffees from signing Yankuba Minteh, who terrorised Vitaliy Mykolenko before his early substitution.
This message to the board has made it clear: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is no longer wanted at the club.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation causing friction at Goodison Park
Whilst this is likely not a definitive thought process across the entire fanbase, with a reception likely born out of frustration during what was a tough day, it does offer a view into how supporters are perceiving his inability to confirm his future from the outside.
With reports that Calvert-Lewin has already rejected one Everton contract as well, there is reason for anger.
This club has given him everything, and in return, he has had two good goalscoring seasons.

And now, at the first time of asking, he is ready to jump ship, but only when the opportunity suits him.
Should he sign a new deal and stay, all will likely be forgotten, but until then Calvert-Lewin will remain a maligned figure, whose ambiguous future is spurring fans to hound him out of the club.
