Everton suffered their second successive Premier League defeat on Saturday afternoon.
Everton needed a strong reaction from the Merseyside Derby defeat, but they weren’t able to produce one.
The Toffees were beaten 2-1 by West Ham United, with Callum Wilson netting a stoppage-time winner in the capital.
Who is to blame for this defeat, then? 😡
Replying to the TalkingPoints above, fans have aimed a lot of their frustrations at David Moyes, with many questioning his team selection and substitutions.
Everton fans baffled by David Moyes’ team selection vs West Ham United
Despite making significant improvements this season, there is still a section of the Everton fanbase that hasn’t really warmed to Moyes.
Back-to-back defeats have certainly brought Moyes’ critics out again, and they have made some very valid points.
- “Moyes won’t change anything. Constantly picks the same players even when they are shocking and won’t shake things up and give anyone else a chance.”
- “Team selections are a joke, I’d like Mr Stubborn to justify allowing Barry to remain on the field for the full duration, the pair of them need to do one, they know where the door is.”
- “I’m not a Moyes hater and I don’t want him gone like some do. But that was all on him today. Takes O’Brien off and puts Garner at right back with 2 right backs on the bench. Starts Barry – a player so far removed from the fans he shouldn’t play again this season. Tarks has been out of form for weeks. City will destroy us playing like that.”
- “Why sign Dibling and not playing him like Dyche did signing Jake O’Brien and not playing him.”
- “Defending at corners is abysmal, happening too often now, Moyes stubbornness picking the same starting line up and I hate saying it, but we’re nowhere near good enough for Europe.”
- “Moyes. Why is George not starting? Why is Barry starting? Why wait to put Alcarez on?”
- “Barry should be nowhere near the starting 11. I would have put Keane up front. Patterson, Rohl and Dibling, what do they need to do to get some game time? Completely Bottling Europe.”
Moyes’ treatment of some of his recent signings is quite strange. Tyrique George, who arrived with a big reputation from Chelsea, can’t seem to get much of a chance, even off the bench.
Tyler Dibling, a £40m acquisition last summer, was an unused substitute for the fifth consecutive Premier League game.
Carloz Alcaraz was given four minutes off the bench, and Merlin Rohl can’t even get a kick at the moment, despite impressing in his rare appearances this season.
Can someone tell me why this wasn’t a penalty? 😤
Moyes clearly has his favourites and seemingly struggles to trust some of the recent additions to his squad.
That is a concern heading into the summer transfer window, as it’s quite clear this squad needs a refresh if they’re to become a European-level side.
