Everton fans have compared Dominic Calvert-Lewin to a club legend as he enters the final month of his contract at the club.

The 28-year-old has spent nine years on Merseyside, but it now looks like his Everton career will come to an end at the end of June.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has struggled for Everton over the last three seasons, having found his best form under Carlo Ancelotti during the 2020/21 season. With David Moyes eyeing a new striker, it looks like the writing is on the wall for the England international.

Everton want several new players for their first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and they are keen to sell their dead wood to make space for them. As it stands, Calvert-Lewin will be one of those players set to leave this summer.

With Moyes nowhere near an agreement for him, Calvert-Lewin has interest from clubs in England and abroad, including in the MLS. Calvert-Lewin still has the chance to stay at Everton, but the clock is ticking to get a deal done.

Now, Everton fans have made an interesting comparison between the Englishman and a player many consider a legend on Merseyside.

Everton fans point out Duncan Ferguson’s goals compared to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s

Duncan Ferguson is hailed as a legend by Everton fans for his efforts at the club in two separate stints.

The Scot spent a combined 10 years at Everton, with his first spell coming between 1994 and 1998, and his second spell from 2000 to 2006.

Having played there for many years, Ferguson was emotional to see Everton leave Goodison Park, but is excited to see the team in the Hill Dickinson Stadium next season.

Despite that, Everton fans have been locked in a debate regarding Ferguson and Calvert-Lewin and the number of goals they scored for the club.

In response, one fan said: “Ferguson won a trophy with the club mate…. End of discussion really.” while another added: “He isn’t good enough and there is no argument for him.”

This fan made a point of Calvert-Lewin’s creative skills, saying: “People also forget that DCL for the entirety of his Everton Career with the exception of Carlo’s full season has lacked in the most part any shred of creativity behind him or he would have easily netted 20 a season.”

“Ferguson isn’t a legend for scoring goals.” said this agitated Everton fan.

Another fan added: “It is an interesting observation …. I think the key difference is Ferguson never ran his contract down to leave on a free.”

Finally, this Everton fan said: “He had a very good contract offered to him over a year ago and refused to sign. Now the winds change direction he might want to stay. He’s an average prem player.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s record at Everton compared to Duncan Ferguson’s

Calvert-Lewin is still open to signing a new deal at Everton, but current signs point towards leaving at the end of his contract.

At 28, there is no doubt he still has a lot left to give and will be eager to play as first choice for as long as he can.

Statistically, Calvert-Lewin is just one goal off matching Ferguson’s total at Everton, although he has played one more game than the Scot. It currently looks like he will not have the chance to surpass Ferguson’s total.

With Moyes recognising the problems with Everton’s attack, Calvert-Lewin could fall down the pecking order even if he were to stay on next season.

Ferguson will be remembered as a legend on Merseyside, but fans do not want to say the same about Calvert-Lewin, despite his long stay at Everton.
