Everton suffered a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, ending a brilliant run of form.

Heading into the Premier League clash, Everton had won four of their last five games, so confidence was sky high.

But, David Moyes’ side got off to the worst possible start when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had to come off through injury.

Dewsbury-Hall was substituted off for Carlos Alcaraz in the opening 20 minutes with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Despite multiple chances, Everton just couldn’t find the back of the net, and supporters were really critical of Thierno Barry’s display.

Everton fans not impressed by Thierno Barry’s display vs Chelsea

Barry’s performances have really improved lately, and his efforts were rewarded with a goal against Nottingham Forest last week.

But, against Chelsea, the Frenchman was anonymous, and Toffees fans were really unimpressed, as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Barry a non-factor. One goal does not mean that Everton don’t desperately need a striker next window,” @Mark_LaManna68 admitted.

What did you make of Thierno Barry’s display vs Chelsea?

@aurafarmer143 added: “Everton might as well be playing with 10 men. Thierno Barry has been nonexistent. Calling him a ghost wouldn’t be apt, as that’s probably better than what’s happening.”

“Barry’s still a work in progress. Seems very raw and uncomfortable,” @Daviddo59634309 said.

@Kevin_1878 commented: “Thierno Barry. He puts the one away at Sunderland we win that game. He puts that one away today and we may well win the game. 2 absolute sitters as well. Not good enough. Need to sign a striker.”

“Barry is like the invisible man, useless,” @MkeatingMichael noted.

@NMc_PR_Comms said: “That chance that went through Barry’s legs sums him (and Everton’s attack) up.”

Everton’s need for a striker was highlighted once again

It was very evident against Chelsea that Everton are in desperate need of a new centre-forward this winter.

That said, Moyes is exploring a number of potential deals, with Richarlison being linked with a return to the Toffees in January.

AZ Alkmaar’s Troy Parrott is also on Everton’s radar, with the Dutch outfit willing to sanction his sale for around £31m.

Any incoming forward wouldn’t necessarily replace Barry, but more so assist and take the pressure off him.

Moyes views Barry as a project signing, so these types of performances against Chelsea are all part of his development.

Plus, he didn’t exactly get much service, so it’s certainly not all on him by any means.
