Everton are weighing up a move to sign Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott ahead of the January transfer window.
David Moyes’ side are in desperate need of a prolific centre-forward, and Troy Parrott is certainly proving himself to be just that.
Parrott went viral on the weekend after netting a dramatic hat-trick against Hungary, which saved Ireland’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup next month.
Is Troy Parrott the perfect January signing for Everton?
Toffees scouts watched Parrott’s two-goal display against Portugal in the qualifier before that, so clearly Moyes will be getting a positive report back ahead of the winter window.
Everton fans have been discussing whether the 23-year-old would be a good signing and they’ve made some really thought-provoking points.

Some Everton fans don’t think Troy Parrott is the right signing
Amid the strong links to Parrott over the last week, or so, Toffees supporters have taken to Reddit and X to give their verdict on the potential signing.
It’s fair to say many aren’t convinced by the 23-year-old striker.
“We really shouldn’t be signing players based on a couple of international performances. He’s smashing in Netherlands, which, as a league, is quite poor. Below the likes of the MLS according to Opta. Remind me how he did for Preston? One step below the Premier League,” @PuffinChaos said.
@BlueFoxhound1 added: “I know it’s only one international break. But the composure to score all three of those goals was impressive given the stakes, a lot better than what we currently have. When he was in the Championship, he was quite young, he’s now the same age as Barry, who’s been bought as a future investment.”
Where will Everton finish this season?
@Public-Degree-9174 noted: “I think they’d be silly to not explore the option— see if he’s made any serious changes to his game/approach with AZ. Sometimes these lads go abroad and add components to their game, get a little continental advice and they’re unlocked. The poor record in the champs and league one is concerning, but he’s young and I remember he was once an FM wonder kid!”
“The Dutch league is a far cry from the Premier League, and the fella couldn’t make it in the Championship or League One 2 years ago, struggling with the physicality of both leagues. He’s scored 5 goals in his last 2 appearances for Ireland, yet only 2 in his last 30 before this. I don’t think we should, in all honesty,” @Chris80L1 explained.
“We need to learn from past errors. Beto was signed after one good season in Italy. Youssef Chermiti was signed off his performances of 1 season in Portugal. One and a bit of decent seasons in Holland is not good enough,” @Monna14 pointed out.
@RingKilcronan has a different view: “He definitely has the knack of being in the right place. Another Lineker?”
Everton need a more experienced striker
Writing in his exclusive Everton News column, Alan Myers reckons Everton need a striker with Premier League experience, and he’s right.
“A striker, in my mind, should be top of the list when looking at strengthening the squad as it’s clear the team have struggled in forward areas,” Myers wrote.
“That’s not to say what is there now isn’t good enough, but for various reasons, the return from the two current strikers is not enough for the whole season.
“There needs to be another option for David Moyes and, for me, that has to be a player that has Premier League experience.”
How would you rate Everton’s 2025/26 season so far?
Ivan Toney has been linked with a return to the Premier League with Everton, but Myers believes that transfer is unlikely.
Danny Welbeck could be an option for Everton, but Brighton may not want to part with the prolific veteran mid-season.
