Everton remain in the hunt for European football despite the 2-1 defeat to Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
The Toffees deserved more against Liverpool, but ultimately they came away with nothing at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
David Moyes’ side are still in a decent position heading into the final five games of the season, as they’re just one point behind sixth-placed Chelsea.
Thoughts on Barry’s cameo vs Liverpool? 😬
With that said, we asked Everton supporters on TalkingPoints and on our Facebook page for predictions on whether the Merseysiders will qualify for Europe.
Everton fans agree that Europe is a step too far
It’s fair to say Everton fans aren’t very confident of making it into Europe this season, as many feel the team just isn’t ready.
Replying to the TalkingPoint below, one supporter pointed out that the Toffees have a really tough run-in.
Everton fans, how do you feel about our European football prospects now with five games to go? 🤔
The defeat to Liverpool was a sickener, but we're still right in the mix! 🙏
- “We’re not ready for it. I hoped for 10th to 12th at the start of the season, so if we finish 8th to 10th, I will be happy with that and build over the summer to push for it next season.”
- “Think we will finish about where we are now. Some very tough games left.”
- “I think we will get 9 points which I think will mean we miss out. Others have better run-ins and are in better form than us at the moment. Either way it’s been a better season.”
- “I’d love to see us back in Europe next season, but from where we’ve come from in the last five years, my gut says it’s just a bridge too far, but next season is definitely on the cards depending on what happens with the squad.”
- “I’d be happy with the progress we have made but unfortunately we haven’t got the squad depth for Europe.”
- “Sadly, it’s going to be tremendously hard with our luck at the moment and the sides we have left to play, I’m not being negative, but I can see 7/8th finish.”
- “We don’t have the depth or quality to play in Europe next season. Moyes needs to improve quality and quantity next season, then who knows.”
- “Not up to it until we get A STRIKER and Grealish.”
- “Going to go right down to the wire. Have to remember 6th could be CL if Villa win Europa. So there is still a good chance at landing one of the European competitions.”
The pessimism is understandable considering where Everton have been in recent weeks, although looking at the last five games, there are some winnable games.
Maybe three wins and a draw will do it, so Moyes will be targeting maximum points against West Ham, Crystal Palace and Sunderland.

The Manchester City game will, of course, be very difficult, and Tottenham Hotspur away on the final day is a tough one to predict, given the importance of it for the hosts.
