Everton are out of the Carabao Cup after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday night.

The Carabao Cup was seen as a real opportunity to win major silverware, and it was also an avenue to get into Europe.

However, strangely, David Moyes made seven changes to his side, and he was made to pay for fielding the much-weakened team.

One of the Everton players who came in had a game to forget, and now fans reckon that may be the final straw in his career on Merseyside.

Everton fans fuming with Dwight McNeil after Wolves defeat

Dwight McNeil has been a bit-part player under Moyes but was given the nod to start in the defeat at Molineux.

Everton supporters were far from impressed with his performance, as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their thoughts.

“McNeil has become the player Burnley fans moaned about before we signed him with half arsed performances. Watch him for the first goal it’s abysmal tracking back,” @pauljohno1878 posted.

“I’ve seen some poor performances over the years but that McNeil one last night maybe up there,” @everton_arent commented.

@Jayph96 noted: “Moyes doesn’t trust McNeil off the bench in the prem, and he was the worst player on the pitch when we beat Mansfield.. not sure why he even got a chance last night.”

“McNeil for me personally has now shown me hes not just lost his place in the team but as an Everton player. He offers nothing on the pitch, we have moved on from him,” @Roberto92266693 said.

David Moyes on whether any fringe player took their chance

Moyes was asked whether he thought any of the fringe players who started yesterday took their opportunity.

“Well, they’ve got a level to get up to now because we’ve seen the levels, you saw it in the second half, the performance levels, how much better it was,” the Scotsman admitted.

“The players who we introduced made a huge difference to the team. So we want everybody to play at that level.

“We didn’t play at the level in the first half, but I don’t think Wolves did either. I didn’t think they were necessarily any better at that time in the game.”
