Everton fans told they did something ‘sensational’ during Man United defeat

Everton are one of the most well-supported teams in the land. That is an irrefutable fact.

Their fanbase travels the length and width of the country every week, to support a side that has not won a trophy since the 1990s, has been involved in two relegation battles in as many years, and is swimming in financial issues.

Nothing deters them. Nothing prevents them from selling out. Nothing.

That is why when a moment like their points deduction occurs, it will only add to their unflinching spirit rather than take away. Arguably, the supporters have now never been so unified, given the common enemy the Premier League has become.

The mass protests that lined Goodison Park on Sunday stood as sparkling proof of this, as twice the infamous ground became a sea of pink ‘Corrupt’ signs to make their feelings known.

Journalist Joe Thomas, who was one of the lucky 39,472 in attendance, sought to put into words the atmosphere generated as the players walked out.

He would take to X to write: ‘Goodison is a cauldron of emotion. Whoever you support and whatever you think of the merit of Everton fans’ protests, this is a sensational display of fan unity. The atmosphere is incredible. It is a privilege to be here.’

When are Everton moving into their new stadium?

As one of England’s oldest and most historic grounds, the first to be purpose-built for football, it will mark a sad day when the Toffees depart it.

However, in order to progress and keep up with the times, it is an unfortunate necessity.

The commercial aspect alone makes it a mouth-watering move, let alone the wall of noise that 52,000 Evertonians are now set to command on the banks of the Mersey.

Whilst the progress made on their Bramley-Moore Dock build has been startlingly speedy, it is still far from completion even if blue seats have begun creeping into the stands.

There is so much left to decide on, and as such a late 2024 completion date has been confirmed. However, that does not even begin to take into account the debate on whether the move-in should be mid-season, or after the 2024/25 campaign.
