Everton fans had to endure a painful Carabao Cup Final on Sunday afternoon between Newcastle United and Liverpool.

David Moyes’ side were able to keep their impressive unbeaten run going in the Premier League over the weekend.

However, they were unable to get back to winning ways, with Jake O’Brien once again scoring a late equaliser to secure a point.

Everton are now 17 points clear of the relegation zone amid the first international break of the year.

Arne Slot was unable to get the better of Everton when the two sides met at Goodison Park last month.

And the Dutchman was unable to get the better of Eddie Howe at Wembley Stadium, which forced a priceless reaction out of Jordan Pickford.

Everton’s Jordan Pickford reacts to Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup triumph

Pickford was praised for his display against West Ham on the weekend as he pulled off some smart stops to prevent the Hammers from extending their lead.

The 30-year-old has now met up with his England teammates ahead of their World Cup Qualifiers over the coming days.

However, it was not all smiles for the Everton shot-stopper when he was asked how he spent his Sunday afternoon.

“Watched the game,” Pickford replied to the England media team.

But it was the goalkeeper’s expression to the camera after saying that which really showed his true emotions.

It was a lose-lose game for Pickford, for obvious reasons he will not have wanted Liverpool to win.

However, he may have wanted Newcastle to lose even more, considering he is a die-hard Sunderland fan.

Alan Shearer has hailed Pickford this season in what has been another fine showing for the Everton goalkeeper.

But it is the Newcastle legend who will have had the last laugh this weekend after the Toon ended their 70-year trophy drought.

Jordan Pickford’s England fixtures

Injuries have plagued Everton this season, and there may now be an argument their run of draws could have been prevented with some players back fit.

Iliman Ndiaye remains out through injury, and that is just one example with Dwight McNeil marking a long-term absence for the Toffees.

Although it would be a huge slice of bad luck, Everton will have everything crossed Pickford can come through the international break unscathed.

Everton have some massive fixtures coming up next month as they finally look to secure their survival.

Alongside training under Thomas Tuchel for the first time, Pickford has two England games he will potentially be playing in.
