There is much debate over whether Everton should pay £50m for Tyler Dibling this summer.
Southampton are making Everton work for the signing of the 19-year-old, as David Moyes doesn’t want to back down.
Although Moyes has threatened to leave Dibling due to the price tag, the deal still has some possibility of happening.
This comes after Dibling was absent from Southampton training, which could be a hint at where his future lies.
But the overall consensus is that the Toffees might not want to fork out £50 million on an inexperienced youngster; however, Dibling has shown his ability and has put Anthony Gordon to shame.
Tyler Dibling is better than Anthony Gordon when he left Everton
When Gordon left Everton for Newcastle United, there was rage amongst Evertonians to see one of their own jump ship so early on.
It seemed like the 24-year-old forced his exit from Goodison Park, and Gordon admitted the Newcastle move was a ‘no-brainer’.
Although his quality was there, many were surprised that the Toon Army were so keen to sign the youngster for so much, and the same situation has arisen with Dibling; only the Saints youngster is better.
| Statistics | Anthony Gordon in 22/23 | Tyler Dibling in 24/25 |
| Games played | 32 | 33 |
| Goals | 4 | 2 |
| Pass accuracy % | 79.7% | 84.3% |
| Chances created | 14 | 20 |
| Dribble success % | 30% | 51.1% |
| Fouls won | 23 | 50 |
The fact that he was sold for a deal potentially rising to £45 million said a lot at the time, as Everton fans probably didn’t think he was worth that figure despite showing promise.
Now, the same is being said about Dibling, but just look at Gordon now.
Anthony Gordon has proven that Everton’s £50m Tyler Dibling deal is worth it
The Newcastle winger has been an immense success under Eddie Howe since leaving Merseyside.
Even though Dibling looks to be a more exciting talent, the former Everton star has proven that his £45 million transfer was worth every penny, as the Toffees may not see it as a steal anymore with Gordon being worth £100 million at one stage.
There was shock when he left the Toffees for that amount, but this might give insight into how Dibling’s potential £50 million deal could be completely worth it.
Dibling is a talent who hasn’t been completely unearthed yet, but the same can be said about the Newcastle forward at the start of his tenure with the Magpies, as he was nurtured by Eddie Howe, and Moyes can now do the same with the Southampton talent.
It’s always going to be a risk to pay a large amount for an unproven talent with bags of potential, but Gordon’s sale has proven it can work flawlessly.
