Everton are now turning their attention elsewhere in the summer transfer market after securing the signing of Thierno Barry.
The Toffees have finally been able to get their first new face of the summer signed, but there is still plenty of work to do.
Angus Kinnear has an ‘unprecedented’ amount of work at Everton following his move to Merseyside from Leeds United.
It is a huge period in Everton’s history as the club prepares for the 2025/26 season in their state-of-the-art new stadium.
David Moyes is making no secret of his demands to improve the quality of the squad at Finch Farm.
“I’m hoping to make more additions in the coming weeks,” said the 62-year-old in the announcement Barry’s arrival.
With the pre-season efforts now well underway, there are three midfielders who Everton have discussed internally.

Everton have internally discussed Joao Palhinha transfer
Although attacking additions are the focus of this summer’s window, Everton are also keen to add a new midfielder to the squad.
The Blues have already received a midfield boost through Idrissa Gana Gueye deciding to stay on Merseyside.
According to Paul Joyce, for The Times, there are three midfielders who have been discussed internally at Everton:
- Douglas Luiz
- John McGinn
- Joao Palhinha
The latter departed the Premier League for Bayern Munich, but things have not worked out well for the Portugal international.
Everton have made an approach for McGinn recently as they look to address their depth in midfield.
Between Luiz and Palhinha, it will be interesting to see whether Everton are the side to provide either midfielder with a return to England after their struggles abroad.
What Harry Kane said about Joao Palhinha
Everton News understands Everton also hold an interest in Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney, with Boro accepting his likely departure.
A player like Palhinha would offer the Toffees considerably more experience, though.
The midfielder made the move to Munich last summer but he already finds himself looking for a route out of the Bundesliga.
Palhinha has earned plenty of experience in some of Europe’s top leagues, and played alongside some top quality players.
His Bayern teammate Harry Kane was delighted to see him make the move to the Allianz Arena last year, hailing him with huge praise.
“Pal [Palhinha] is an animal in that defensive midfield role. I’ve had many battles against him. He tackles, he intercepts, he reads the game really well – so he’s a great addition,” Kane said.
