Nobody expected much from Everton within this January transfer window, and thus far they are yet to be disappointed.

Zero incomings, and zero outgoings. Just as predicted.

And yet, that has not stopped the rumour mill from turning, with stars here and there touted to still make a Goodison Park switch but with nothing yet to materialise.

Well, things could be set to change in the final five days of the window, as one journalist has revealed.

We at Everton News spoke exclusively to HITC Football’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey, who detailed one young star whom the Toffees might still sign, either this month or the summer.

What Graeme Bailey has said about Everton’s January transfer window

We sought to find out whether there was any truth to the rumours that Amadou Onana might be leaving soon, and whether the club had a contingency plan in place for such an eventuality.

After all, the £33m star has grown into an important figure for Sean Dyche’s side, and his exit would mark a hammer blow.

However, Bailey has suggested that the Belgian is unlikely to move anytime soon, and that another midfielder could still be on the way anyway.

He noted: ‘It’s interesting that we see Adam Wharton, who is subject to a bid from Crystal Palace, I do know he is one who Everton have watched previously, everyone has watched Adam Wharton he’s a fantastic talent, but I do think Everton will be sniffing around him.

‘I don’t think contingency plans though, nobody is paying £60m for Amadou Onana in my opinion ever, definitely not in January.’

How good is Adam Wharton?

An all-action midfielder who can seemingly do it all, it is no surprise that the Eagles are so keen to bring the 19-year-old to Selhurst Park even for the reported £18.5m bid.

And, in the same vein, that he has caught Dyche’s eye either.

After all, it has been a blistering campaign thus far for the teenage enforcer, who can seemingly do it all.

This is exemplified through a whole host of outstanding figures, which paint the picture of a young talent who could play anywhere he wanted.

His defensive intelligence is already immaculate, as he posts 2.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 5.5 ball recoveries per game in the Championship, via Sofascore.

Then, his ability to control the game is emphasised through his 85% pass accuracy and 1.3 key passes per game too.

But perhaps most impressively is the fact he has managed to add two goals and three assists to his game too in the league, on top of these other mesmerising statistics.

The sky truly is the limit for Wharton, and the only hope will be that Everton can stump up the cash to make Bailey’s suggestion a reality.
