Everton are now said to be showing an interest in signing 21-year-old Sam Tickle who was on fire against Manchester United in the FA Cup.

While Everton are clearly prioritising attacking additions this month, they’re also now reportedly keen on a new goalkeeper.

On Monday, Wigan goalkeeper Sam Tickle was incredible against Manchester United as he made 12 saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

His impressive display warranted a 9.1 match rating on SofaScore which was definitely deserved as he denied United a dozen times which included 10 saves from inside the box.

With Tickle in goal, Wigan have kept seven clean sheets this season which demonstrates his display wasn’t just a one-off.

Now that the dust has settled though, it’s been reported that the Goodison Park side has watched Tickle and this latest display will have encouraged Kevin Thelwell.

Everton have watched Sam Tickle

According to The Athletic and Paddy Boyland, the goalkeeper was already on Everton’s radar – along with additional Premier League clubs – before his showstopping display earlier this week.

“The goalkeeper is a player Everton have watched — and he excelled in Wigan’s FA Cup third-round tie against Manchester United this week. But I don’t think it’s gone further than that at this stage, with other Premier League sides showing more concrete interest.

“I wouldn’t rule out someone buying him and loaning him back to Wigan for the remainder of the season.”

With Jordan Pickford 29 years old, a long-term replacement will no doubt be currently being eyed. Tickle could be an excellent understudy for Pickford and could be a good option to play in the cups.

With his stock no doubt on the rise, signing Tickle sooner than later would be wise for Everton, but how much would he cost?

How much would Sam Tickle cost?

As of right now, Tickle has a market value of just £500k according to TransferMarkt and it is unlikely that he costs too much more than this.

Still breaking through, Wigan could be tempted to cash in on a bid north of his value and as mentioned a loan back could be included for the remainder of this season and maybe even next season.

He’d be a very cheap signing for Everton, and potentially one who could bring high rewards.
