There’s been intense debate in the media after a controversial VAR incident saw Liverpool have a goal disallowed in a game they went onto lose, and former Everton defender Phil Neville has now mocked comments made by Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp stated today that he thinks the game should be replayed, after Luis Diaz saw a legitimate goal accidentally ruled out, and many have been quick to call out Liverpool’s hypocrisy in the situation.
An Everton fan on Twitter has responded to Klopp’s desire to replay the match, jokingly claiming that the Merseyside Derby in 2007, which saw Liverpool win 2-1, should be replayed given that Dirk Kuyt deserved to be sent off.
Neville mocks Klopp’s comments
The Everton fan tagged the former defender in a tweet, asking if he was ready for the game to be replayed 16 years later, with Neville having suffered a flying tackle from Kuyt, who somehow escaped with a yellow card.
“Just wondering if we can replay this game ? He should of been sent off and went on to score goals and Liverpool won 2-1. (Phil Neville, Tim Howard, Steven Pienaar) get your boots back out lad,” Everton fan John Murray tweeted.
“I agree – I will get my boots ready for the replay!” Neville responded, indicating that he agrees that Klopp’s comments are outrageous given the wrong decisions given in Liverpool’s favour over the past.
Everton’s endless replays

If Everton were to replay every game in which an incorrect decision was given against them, the season would never end.
Villarreal away in 2005 springs to mind, with Pierluigi Collina making a much more significant error than the VAR gaffe seen at the weekend, as Everton were knocked out of the Champions League playoffs.
Kuyt’s tackle on Neville was made worse by the fact that he went on to score in a 2-1 Liverpool win, and the game could have ended so differently if the correct decision was made.
It seems that Phil Neville is keen for a long-awaited replay, let’s see if Dirk Kuyt will oblige.
