Everton identify ‘top’ target to replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin after update on his future emerges

Everton enjoyed a pretty profitable transfer window, all things considered, their failure to sign a new winger aside.

After all, Kevin Thelwell bolstered Sean Dyche‘s backline, attack and midfield with some key additions who are already impressing.

Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam are the two standouts thus far, who both performed admirably to help Dominic Calvert-Lewin score and assist despite falling to a late defeat.

And yet, as the 27-year-old shone amidst ongoing contract turmoil, rumours regarding a new striker are now rife once again.

Everton still want to sign a new striker

Taking to his Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon has provided an out-of-window transfer update on Everton, particularly on Calvert-Lewin and who might be enlisted to replace him in the coming windows.

He wrote: ‘Everton boss Sean Dyche is making Luton striker Elijah Adebayo his top striker target for the next window.

‘The Toffees chief expects to lose Dominic Calvert-Lewin at some stage and his spies are focusing on the Hatters hit man as his replacement.

‘Dyche would have bid for Adebayo last week if efforts to move out Calvert-Lewin had come to anything, but he will be back.

‘Luton are open to a sale if the bids are in the £15 to £20 million range and Everton would have enough to attempt that in January if they sell their contract rebel.

‘However Crystal Palace are also checking out Adebayo just in case Jean-Philippe Mateta attracts a buyer and refuses to sign a new deal.

‘We revealed Eagles were keen for Mateta to sign an extension but there has been little progress in that and the Frenchman may fancy a glamour move.’

Despite staying at the club after the summer, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has still not signed a new Everton contract.

Would Elijah Adebayo be an improvement on Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

Although the 26-year-old Luton Town marksman has just one Premier League season under his belt, he really impressed with his performances for a side that comfortably fell to relegation.

Across just 16 starts, he hit double figures with ten impressive strikes, maintaining a goal conversion rate of 32%.

For comparison, Calvert-Lewin has yet to ever maintain such a figure across his eight seasons in the English top flight.

Adebayo is not just a goalscorer though, standing at 6 foot 4 and providing a real handful to any defender he faces.

Everton even failed to contain the Englishman, who took his goal brilliantly back in May as he chested down a long ball and slid the ball past Jordan Pickford for an equaliser.

Calvert-Lewin is a competent finisher and boasts brilliant hold-up play, but if he is to leave, Adebayo would offer just as much for a cut-price.
