Everton have made a number of transfer blunders over the years.

During Farhad Moshiri’s reign, the Toffees had a scattergun approach to their transfer business and were paid to pay as many of their expensive recruits failed to make an impact.

Davy Klassen, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Moise Kean are just a few examples of Everton’s poor recruitment over the years.

However, Moise Kean is now impressing at Fiorentina and is being linked with a move back to the Premier League with Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Everton also made a big transfer blunder in 2021 when they ignored a recommendation from Cenk Tosun.

Everton ignored Cenk Tosun’s recommendation to sign Arda Guler in 2021

Cenk Tosun didn’t really have the desired impact at Everton after his £27m move from Besiktas in January 2018.

Tosun netted just 11 times in 61 appearances for the Toffees, so he could probably be considered a flop transfer.

However, he did recommend now Real Madrid superstar Arda Guler in 2021, when the young Turkish playmaker was a relative unknown.

“Everton asked me,” Tosun explained to Ajansspor. “I mentioned Arda from Fenerbahce (back in 2021). They looked but did not make a move because he was under 18.”

Guler is now considered one of the best young talents on the planet and enjoyed a sensational Euro 2024 campaign last summer.

The 20-year-old has registered eight goal involvements for Real so far this season.

Everton must learn from past mistakes this summer

Everton’s recruitment team is set to undergo a restructure ahead of the summer transfer window.

Clearly, the Friedkin Group have identified that as an area which needs improvement and David Moyes is keen to hire two former West Ham colleagues.

Moyes wants Rob Newman and Mick Doherty to join the recruitment team, though, soon-to-be CEO Angus Kinnear has his own ideas.

Kinnear is eyeing two Leeds chiefs Nicky Hammond and Gary Penrice, so there’s already a disagreement brewing.

It’s thought Kinnear may have the final say.
