Everton star Iliman Ndiaye has been a revelation for the Toffees since he signed from Sheffield United last summer – but one new man being linked could make the Senegalese attacker have a reduced role in the side.
Iliman Ndiaye has undoubtedly been Everton’s Player of the Season in the Premier League in 2025-26, doubling the tally of any player in terms of goalscoring and wowing fans with his dribbling and game-changing moments.
He’s been a huge reason as to why Everton aren’t in immediate relegation danger, and being sat just four points behind a Champions League space, there is every chance that the Toffees will hoist themselves into a European spot.
But if one of David Moyes’ top transfer targets in Ivan Toney signs, it could peg Ndiaye down a notch as the England international will likely take over as the Toffees’ first-choice penalty taker.

Ivan Toney move would push Iliman Ndiaye down the penalties pecking order
Everton were linked with Ivan Toney earlier this week, with the Al-Ahli forward being touted for a move back to the Premier League.
Al-Ahli directors have shut down any notion of an Everton move for Toney, but interest remains in the former Brentford star, who scored 20 goals in the Premier League in the 2022-23 campaign.
Thierno Barry and Beto have not produced the goods so far this season, with only the latter scoring in the Premier League, and if that continues through to January then Toney will be greatly needed if Everton are to have any chance of securing a European place.
| Penalty missed | Competition | Goalkeeper faced |
|---|---|---|
| Brentford vs Newcastle, 2022-23 | Premier League | Nick Pope |
| Peterborough vs Barnsley, 2018-19 | League One | Adam Davies |
One of the main facets of Ivan Toney’s move would be his penalty record. The English star has only missed two penalties in his career, one for Peterborough in League One in 2018, and one for Brentford against Newcastle in the Premier League in 2023.
His top-flight record sits at 11 goals from 12 attempts and he’s one of the most composed men from the 12-yard spot in world football.
Iliman Ndiaye will be harshly taken off of penalty duties if Ivan Toney signs
Taking Iliman Ndiaye off of penalty duties seems the smart move given Toney’s record, but the 25-year-old has not done anything wrong per se.
In fact, the Senegalese star has scored each of his past four penalties for the Toffees since he joined – and being the only player to take a penalty for Everton, it means the club haven’t missed a spot-kick since Beto did so against West Ham almost two years ago in March 2024.
Ndiaye rolled the ball home against Crystal Palace in a last-minute win on home turf, whilst penalties last season against Arsenal, Brighton and Peterborough means he’s got a 100 percent record from 12 yards.
But Toney is seriously impressive from the spot. He’s taken 50 penalties in his career, only missing the aforementioned two – meaning he’s got a 96 percent success rate, and that doesn’t even include penalty shootouts.
Ndiaye has proven himself to be a star for Everton, including on penalty duties, but Toney’s incredible record will push him ahead of the Senegal star.
