Over the last few years, it has truly become an arduous task to continue supporting Everton.
After all, Farhad Moshiri and his poisonous ownership have seemingly sucked everything positive about what once made this club great and turned it on its head.
Not that long ago the Toffees were a revered team across the country, with Goodison Park a place no team wanted to come.
Nowadays, with a fanbase having been downtrodden and thrashed around by the Premier League, Moshiri and several groups of players who seemingly didn’t care, the enthusiasm that once made the ground so feared has gone.
The home atmosphere remains flat unless something significant happens to spark some life, and even then it does not last unless whatever controversy persists.
Perhaps, in an effort to get fans excited to come to Goodison Park again, Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell could put their heads together and try and conjure up a deal for a silky footballer to get bums on seats.
Who is trying to sign Maxwel Cornet?
However, given their peril, they will want to acquire someone who can also have a positive effect on this team and lead them towards safety.
With that in mind, Maxwel Cornet arguably represents the best value on the market at the moment, and one which Crystal Palace are seeking to capitalise on.
Journalist Ed Aarons writes: ‘Told that Palace are still interested in Maxwel Cornet loan but West Ham are reluctant to allow him to leave with Benrahma expected to join Lyon’.
Perhaps Everton should be seeking to get involved in this and find whatever funds are needed to finally bolster their wide ranks by hijacking the deal.
Should Everton try to sign Maxwel Cornet?
The Ivorian may have seen his game time limited since moving to West Ham United for £17.5m, but he remains a tricky customer who can bring a game to life at a moment’s notice.
After all, the spell he enjoyed upon first joining Burnley, under Dyche’s leadership, was legendary.
In fact, he very nearly kept them in the division at Everton’s expense, scoring nine goals across the league season from an expected goals tally of just 6.7.
Unsurprisingly, he garnered huge affection from the current Toffees manager, who gushed at the time: ‘Terrific, he’s coming with an energy about him, he’s got a bit of freedom in his game and that’s why we brought him here, to add to what we do and he’s certainly looking in these early stages like he would.
‘He certainly is offering something to the team, you can see that, not just with his goals of course but by just giving us that little bit of difference that we’ve been searching for.’
One journalist, Andy Jones, would even brand him as Burnley’s ‘saviour’ after one particularly outstanding performance in October 2021.
In reuniting him with his old boss at Goodison Park, perhaps he could replicate that feat and actually lead a team to safety this time, firing in some much-needed goals and getting Goodison Park rocking once again.
