David Moyes is a vastly experienced coach.
The Everton boss can boast 1,178 games in football management and more than 500 matches as a player – cementing himself as one of the most savvy operators still around in the Premier League at the age of 62.
Therefore, it should speak volumes when David Moyes likes a player, and Everton are now monitoring someone the Glaswegian has tracked for well over a decade in Harry Maguire.
Would Harry Maguire even start for Everton? 🤔
Moyes already has Keane, Tarkowski, Branthwaite and O'Brien to fill just two positions… 👀
Everything David Moyes has previously said about Harry Maguire as Everton shortlist Manchester United star
The Daily Briefing believe Everton are a potential destination for the England international this summer, as he prepares to leave Manchester United when his contract ends in July.
If a deal materialises, it would presumably delight Moyes based on what he has previously said about the 32-year-old.
The Everton boss hailed Maguire when speaking on the Stick To Football podcast back in November 2024 – revealing that he actually used to obsess about how to nullify the defender ahead of facing him.
Moyes said: “Really difficult to deal with Harry Maguire at set pieces. He was a monster (in) both boxes.
“We were saying, how are we going to stop Harry Maguire getting on the end of things? And how are we going to keep the ball away from him?”
Moyes also made attempts to sign the Yorkshireman while in charge of West Ham, telling reporters that a bid was made, but an agreement never materialised.
He said: “Well I don’t think I would ever really talk about players at other clubs, but we did make an offer for Harry Maguire – just in the end we’ve not been able to take it any further so that’s unfortunate.”
David Moyes has even been aware of Harry Maguire since his days in the English Football League
The admiration for Maguire goes as far back as from when Moyes was managing Manchester United, leaving Everton for Old Trafford in the summer of 2013.

Can the Toffees build on that brilliant win vs Aston Villa? 🤔
Moyes even said he “watched” the towering central defender, but never made a genuine move. He told talkSPORT in August 2019: “Harry Maguire was one I recognised. He played against Preston North End at home in a league game and I watched him and thought he played really well.
“We didn’t try to sign him but we flagged him up at that time. I was very aware of the players in the lower leagues and had made a good career out of bringing them to Everton – whether that be Tim Cahill or all the ones we did through the years.”
Evidently, Moyes is a huge admirer of the Sheffield United academy graduate, so if The Friedkin Group manage to bring him to Everton, he would surely be overjoyed.
