Everton now ‘pursuing’ last-ditch January move for ‘electric’ £13m whiz by deadline

Everton are one of the Premier League’s most cash-strapped teams at the moment.

And yet, rumours still seem to persist linking them with late January moves. It seems that, despite their lack of funds, Kevin Thelwell and co are still foraging about in the market and making some waves in the process.

This has been one of the quietest windows in recent history for the top level of English football, likely due to the punishment administered to the Toffees.

However, were they to force through a late loan on a cut-price deal however, it would not only represent a huge boost for Sean Dyche, but also would ridicule the Premier League, who continue to press down on a club that will not give up.

Ismiala Sarr seems like one fine option to be that catalyst.

Could Everton afford to sign Ismaila Sarr this window?

It feels like Everton have been linked with the Senegalese speedster almost every window since he burst onto the scene with Watford.

After all, he is what they have always been crying out for: pure unadulterated pace.

His blistering speed is undeniable, and he used it to good effect during his four-year spell in England before moving back to France.

But, the big question is whether they could afford to sign the man who once looked set to command a £40m fee.

Well, according to a report by Football Transfers, the 25-year-old has endured a dramatic fall, and is now available for a pittance.

Journalist Jacques Talbot writes: ‘Told Everton are pursuing Ismalia Sarr but face competition from Nottingham Forest and Villarreal. Toffees want loan with an option to buy but Marseille’s asking price is £13m.’

How good is Ismaila Sarr?

The Premier League knows how dangerous Sarr can be when on form.

After all, he shone for a truly underwhelming Hornets outfit for many years, helping them claim some big wins in the top-flight, and later propelling them back after falling to relegation.

His ability to perform for a relegation-threatened side lacking goals should have Dyche intrigued, knowing he could rely on the winger to dig deep during the tough periods of the season.

Scoring five and assisting six in his debut campaign in the Premier League, Watford’s relegation had many interested in prying him from Vicarage Road.

And when he surprisingly stayed, his 23 goal contributions in the Championship further showcased his quality and elite mindset. Journalist and broadcaster Rob Blanchette would even suggest: ‘Why do I like Watford’s Ismaila Sarr? He fits Ole’s #MUFC build. He’s young, hungry and electric. When you watch him, you feel there’s a top-class player in him.’

He had earned a big move away, and when Marseille came calling it seemed impossible to turn down.

But with just three Ligue 1 goals thus far, perhaps a return to England could reignite his career. Everton would be more than happy to offer him the platform for that potential success.
