Anthony Gordon made the ‘right choice’ to leave Everton in January.
That’s according to Garth Crooks via BBC Sport, who has claimed that the forward was ‘made’ for Newcastle United.
Anthony Gordon joined Everton as an 11-year-old and went onto make his first team debut in an Europa League win over Apollon Limassol in 2017.
The youngster didn’t make his Premier League debut until January 2020, before he was sent out on loan to Preston North End the following year.
Despite failing to score in the Championship, Gordon’s return to Goodison Park saw him enjoy a promising breakthrough campaign where he made 35 appearances in the top flight.
Gordon had four goals to his name and was already attracting interest from the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle, with the former prepared to pay up to £60 million after he was named as Everton’s Young Player of the Year.
The 22-year-old made a further 16 appearances for Everton last season, before attempting to force through his exit in January. Gordon refused to show up to training as the Toffees were in the midst of a relegation battle, before he eventually secured a £45m switch to St. James’ Park.
While he endured a slow start on Tyneside, Gordon has gone from strength to strength this season. The attacker has netted four goals and two assists in the Premier League, whilst bagging the only goal in Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Arsenal at the weekend.
After naming him in the BBC Sport Team of the Week, Garth Crooks has insisted that Gordon made the ‘right choice’ in leaving Everton.
He wrote: “There are times when a player moves to a club, and you know within a couple of games whether he has made the right choice.

“Willian’s move from Chelsea to Arsenal, for example, simply didn’t work. Neither has Jadon Sancho’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United.
“Conversely, you get some players who join clubs and you would think they were made for that team. Anthony Gordon’s move from Everton to Newcastle United appears to be one of them.”
Everton no longer care for Anthony Gordon
There is no denying that Anthony Gordon is doing very well at Newcastle United and probably doesn’t regret leaving Everton.
And while the youngster was thought to be an Everton ‘fan’ and played a huge role in keeping the Toffees up, supporters have absolutely no reason to cheer him on as he impresses up north.
Gordon handled his departure from Merseyside extremely poorly and didn’t seem too fazed about Everton’s situation – both financially and in the league table.
With Everton now unbeaten in six of their last eight games, supporters will be eager to forget about those who clearly didn’t care for the club, and will focus on those players currently fighting for the badge.
