Everton have had a number of transfer blunders over the years, particularly during Farhad Moshiri’s tenure.
The Toffees were big spenders when Moshiri first arrived in 2016, however, the recruitment was very hit-and-miss.
The £23m Davy Klassen deal didn’t work out, nor did the Moises Kean transfer, which cost a whopping £37m.
Everton have also missed out on a number of players who’ve since gone on to establish themselves as world-beaters.
Everton tried to sign Alexander Isak in 2016 but failed to land his signature – which was worth around £16m at that point.
And, with that said, there’s another remarkable story of how they turned down a player who’s now one of the best players in the Premier League.

Everton ‘said no’ to signing Bruno Guimaraes in 2019
Speaking to talkSPORT, football agent Kia Joorabchian revealed that Everton turned down the chance to sign Bruno Guimaraes in 2019.
“And Everton haven’t taken any of our advice,” Joorabchian said.
“So we can’t be that influential. In the past, we have offered them Bruno Guimaraes at £16m when he was leaving Athletico Paranaense.
“They didn’t like him and they went for Jean-Philippe Gbamin instead and Guimaraes went to Lyon.”
The Toffees opted to outlay £25m on Gbamin, who made just eight appearances for the club before leaving on a free in 2023.
Guimaraes now worth £100m and wanted by Arsenal
Guimaraes excelled at Lyon and earned a big-money move to Newcastle United in January 2022, where he has since become one of the best midfielders in Europe.
The Brazil international is widely regarded as world class and as such, Arsenal and Manchester City are keen on landing his signature.
The Magpies wouldn’t sanction his sale for any less than £100m last summer, so clearly, it’ll be a difficult deal to pull off for any forthcoming suitors.
