The impending summer transfer window is, quite simply, of huge significance for Everton.

David Moyes has steadied the ship for The Friedkin Group this season and there is money to spend. Whatever business takes place could well determine whether Everton spend the next few years fighting for European football, or battling in the bottom half of the Premier League instead.

Now, a source close to the Hill Dickinson Stadium has given The I Paper one word to describe what Everton fans can expect from the coming transfer window.

Everton fans told to expect a “big” summer of activity

By the sounds of it, nobody at Everton is going to be resting on any laurels this summer.

The anonymous source claims the Toffees are anticipating a “big” transfer window, although that may not necessarily be a good thing.

The same outlet claims Everton are considering moves for Ben White and John Stones – two established players for England and experienced Premier League footballers at top clubs, so it will be expensive to land them.

Richarlison is also a target – another pricey player close to his thirties at a big club.

Farhad Moshiri put Everton in a tough situation by spending heavily on older players like this, parting with £25m for Theo Walcott and giving him £110,000-a-week at the age of 28, while also splashing £45m on Gylfi Sigurdsson when he was 27.

Similar moves took place for the likes of Yannick Bolasie, Morgan Schneiderlin, Davy Klaassen and Cenk Tosun. These deals saw Everton create a squad with practically no resale value, suffering huge losses on these players which ultimately plunged the Toffees into financial issues.

Having only just managed to move on from that period, it would be truly ridiculous of The Friedkin Group to simply repeat Moshiri’s mistakes.

Hopefully, the word “big” in this instance means significant investment in players under the age of 25 with room to grow – like James Garner has – rather than history repeating itself.
