Everton were rampant last night, blowing away Burnley in a clash that had so many storylines running through it.
Seeing Sean Dyche return to face a club where he had spent ten impressive years naturally dominated the intrigue, but there were also a couple of former Clarets who were in the starting lineup for the hosts also seeking revenge.
That arc was perfectly fulfilled after just 13 minutes, when Dwight McNeil’s delivery was met by James Tarkowski’s header, putting the Toffees in front and kickstarting the rout.
It was a goal forged in Turf Moor, but scored and assisted by a couple of Everton stars who have grown into integral figures in Merseyside.
However, the former’s celebration was not received well by the travelling support, who would go on to boo him throughout the clash.

Journalist Shamoon Hafezeven outlined this on BBC’s Live Blog, questioning why he was receiving such a reaction.
And yet, the winger remained classy online after the match, taking to Instagram to offer a classy response to such frustration: ‘A club I hold dear in my heart, always wishing Burnley the best.’
How did Dwight McNeil play vs Burnley?
It was another typically workmanlike showing from the 23-year-old whiz, who was industrious down his flank and creative in flashes. Both he and Jack Harrison combined well, even if the latter was perhaps not quite up to his usual high standards.
His key contribution came from that early assist, although it was his corner that was knocked down by Tarkowski for the second too, emphasising how integral he proved to be despite only recording 46 touches.
Hitting the mark with four of his six crosses was also a fine return against a side once renowned for their solidity, as the £25k-per-week magician unpicked their backline with ease.

And yet, perhaps more importantly for a player whose play style is forged on work ethic, four tackles, one clearance and six duels won marked an impressive defensive shift too, via Sofascore.
With his talent clear for all to see, McNeil’s response to such vocalised frustrations from his former fans showcases that there is a top human behind the exceptional player.
