Before the new Premier League season had begun, positivity was rife around Everton.
After all, it was thought that Kevin Thelwell had worked wonders in bolstering Sean Dyche’s squad, handing him all the tools necessary to cruise to safety.
However, now just two games in, and already the club is in meltdown.
There’s no depth in the midfield, the right-back problem is killing them, and once again the strikers can’t score.
It’s lucky that two of these three outstanding issues could now be solved in one fell swoop.
Everton stil want Eric Ebimbe
The latest on Everton’s pursuit of Eric Ebimbe, a deal that has seemingly stalled in recent days, comes courtesy of German outlet Frankfurter Rundschau.
They claim that, despite his fine recent campaign, the 23-year-old is a top priority for Frankfurt to sell this summer.

With the Toffees having been linked, they remain on the case, and have had their efforts buoyed by the notion that they are so desperate to offload. The report reads: ‘At the top of the list is probably Junior Dina Ebimbe. The 23-year-old was not in the squad against Borussia Dortmund on the first matchday of the new Bundesliga season, sports director Markus Krösche named poor training performance as the reason.
‘In general, the 23-year-old shows his full potential too infrequently, and Eintracht Frankfurt therefore would like to sell Dina Ebimbe. Everton is touted as a potential buyer, but there has not yet been concrete negotiations.’
He moved from PSG to Frankfurt for just £6m last summer.
How good would Eric Ebimbe be for Everton?
First and foremost, the signing of Ebimbe would provide another versatile body into Dyche’s squad. That alone counts for a lot given the lack of depth they currently have.
And, it just so happens that the France-born midfielder would also provide some much-needed physicality and technical quality, to play either in the engine room or at right-back, where he has deputised in the past.
Highly rated in Germany despite recent troubles regarding his poor training, the former Burnley boss would soon whip him into shape.
Hopefully, once he had achieved such a feat, Ebimbe would start playing like Jude Bellingham, as the Bundesliga website has suggested he normally does.
In fact, they wrote not too long ago: ‘Although a naturally right-sided midfielder, Dina Ebimbe told media upon his Frankfurt unveiling that No.8 is his preferred role. He is also comfortable cutting in off the oppositive flank, with a rangy gait and ability to drive through opposition ranks reminiscent of former Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham in attack mode.’

The similarities can be further reinforced through their respective recent campaigns in the Bundesliga, which the England international left in 2023.
His final year in Germany saw him score eight and assist four whilst also averaging 2.5 tackles per game. Just last season, Ebimbe scored five, assisted three, and managed 3.6 ball recoveries per game, starting five less games.
A couple of all-action midfielders who can occupy numerous roles, Ebimbe would be a fine acquisitor for Everton.
