Everton have enjoyed a summer of progression, but it has not been without its hardships.

Seeking to keep their prized assets at Goodison Park whilst also strengthening to match their ambitions has been tough, but Kevin Thelwell has worked wonders to achieve that thus far.

And, he is not finished yet, with deadline day just around the corner.

In fact, before the window slams shut, the director of football could still add two or three more high-quality signings, whilst also shipping some dead wood too.

Neal Maupay ready to leave Everton

All three of Everton’s senior strikers have been linked with an Everton exit this summer, but it is French outlet Le10sport that has provided the latest and most definitive update that suggests it will be Neal Maupay sacrificed before the summer is done.

This should come as no surprise though, given how the Frenchman has no real place within Sean Dyche‘s squad.

That’s without mentioning Neal Maupay’s feud with Everton fans lately as well.

The report reads: ‘In the plans of Olympique de Marseille, Everton striker Neal Maupay is getting close to a move to the Phocaean city this Wednesday evening. According to our information, Marseille’s board have made good progress behind the scenes, even if there is still a long way to go to close the deal.

‘OM is looking to make a boost in attack. Roberto De Zerbi, the new coach of the Marseillais, seems to want additional reinforcement, especially after the injury of Faris Moumbagna, who suffered ruptured cruciate ligaments. Deprived of the Cameroonian for several months, OM has set its sights on Neal Maupay. As revealed by le10sport.com, Everton will agree to let the French striker go but only in the form of a transfer. With an amount of €8M claimed.

‘According to our information, the team has made good progress in recent hours. The positions of the two clubs are getting closer. If it is still too early to talk about a closed deal, but there is optimism amongst the Marseille board. Neal Maupay (28) is getting closer to OM, a club that the player wants to join, more than any other team that courts him.’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation remains a confusing storyline to follow as well, whilst Beto was also linked to an Everton exit earlier this window.

Neal Maupay’s sale could fund Ernest Nuamah’s Everton transfer

It’s quite ironic that, with how the accounting side of football works, this minor sale could well fund Everton’s interest in Ernest Nuamah.

After all, having been linked with a £25m move for the Ghanaian winger, it’s expected that, were he to sign, the 20-year-old would surely commit to a long-term deal.

Say, hypothetically, he was to pen a five-year contract at Everton, that proposed £25m would therefore be split across those five years. So, the Toffees would have to pay just £5m upfront.

So, if they were to then sell Maupay for the £6.7m touted, those two deals would actually represent a boost to their PSR numbers despite snagging a £25m player.
