Everton takeover: Finance expert issues ‘uneasy’ 777 Partners warning to fans

Whilst Everton’s on-pitch antics are undeniably revitalised, things remain unsettled off it. It almost feels like a grey cloud looms over Goodison Park as they await their fate.

Having progressed into the EFL Cup quarter-finals last night with a 3-0 win over Burnley, just days after they had turned over West Ham United in their own stadium, fans would be forgiven for getting carried away with their team which has picked up form at a key time.

However, their excitement seems perennially short-lived, with the result of their Financial Fair Play hearing set to arrive soon. Given the Premier League’s desire to enact an unprecedented 12-point deduction, the Toffees have a right to be wary of the ruling.

Such a groundbreaking punishment could undo all the hard work Sean Dyche has put into his side, cultivating a new atmosphere devoid of losers unwilling to put in the dirty work.

His side is forged on relentless running and fighting for the badge, and that will likely remain unchanged regardless of who owns the club.

With Farhad Moshiri having made his desire to sell known, and 777 Partners’ Josh Wander having visited numerous games now, it seems that things are progressing nicely for the sale of Everton.

However, that has not stopped finance expert Kieran Maguire from weighing in on their potential new custodians, telling content producer James Allcott about his gut feeling towards the Miami-based firm.

He told The Ripple Effect: ‘Where is he going to get the money from in respect of Everton? Here, we seem to be very, very vague, and that makes me feel slightly uneasy.

‘Are they going to have another leveraged buyout as we’ve seen in the case of Manchester United and the Glazers, and ALK Capital and Burnley? The simple answer is we don’t know, and not knowing is not something that I’d like.

‘At the same time, if you’re a drowning man and somebody throws you a life belt you don’t say no. So there’s that issue as well and I think some Everton fans will say it can’t be worse than Moshiri.

‘But, if you take a look at what happened with Scunthorpe United this year, if you take a look at what’s happened at Bury, if you take a look at Wigan and what happened when they had a new owner who within three weeks had put the club into administration, sometimes the fire can be worse than the frying pan.’

How much are 777 Partners worth?

Given the countless fiscal blunders made by Moshiri, it would make sense for fans to be delighted to see the back of him.

Especially given that his fortune, which Forbes suggests sits at around $3.1bn (£2.5bn) pails in comparison to that of their new potential owners.

However, the reported $12bn (£9.63bn) net worth of 777 Partners would not be exclusive to the Toffees, given their acquisition would see them join the business’ multi-club scheme consisting of other sides such as Sevilla and Genoa.

To question where the finances are coming from seems a strange notion for Maguire to be outlining when viewing those two figures, but clearly there is more to it that suggests it would not be a straightforward transaction.

The best fans can hope for is more of the same on the pitch, and hoping that such stability can worm its way into the boardroom.

At last the team seems to have found form that could spearhead their safety well ahead of time. Dyche will be desperate to ensure that takeover rumours do not scupper things.
