Everton takeover plea now made as new 777 Partners doubts emerge at Goodison Park

Everton have suffered through one of their most trying years in their history, but also arguably one of their most progressive given where they started and where they are now.

With on-field drama galore, and off-pitch controversies to speak endlessly about, it is easy to forget that a touted takeover has remained a quietly consistent process for at least the last few months.

With MSP initially looking the most likely to purchase the Toffees, it eventually emerged that 777 Partners were the new frontrunners, before they struck a deal with Farhad Moshiri back in September to finalise the deal.

Now, the Miami-based firm are being forced to wait, praying that a number of regulatory processes shine favourably on them.

Having recently received a huge vote of confidence from the Financial Conduct Authority, it is now the Premier League and the FA who still are yet to offer their verdict.

Well, Alan Myers has at least sought to at least offer his input on proceedings, taking to X to dispel some rumours in an impassioned paragraph.

He wrote: ‘For clarity I have no allegiance, wish or agenda with regards to any new owners, doesn’t bother me if it’s 777, MSP or MFI for that matter, I just want to point out the reality, and hope that whoever takes over is ultimately the right choice, and most importantly gets us going!’

Will 777 Partners take over Everton?

Whilst this might seem like a huge step in the right direction for 777 Partners, and it is, the Financial Conduct Authority have no bearing over what the Premier League or the FA might do.

All they have done with this ruling is confirm that the money is in place to purchase Everton, which The Athletic reported they had ‘always remained confident’ of securing.

So, now it is in place, nothing really has changed.

There is just as much likelihood to see the takeover denied as it is to be ratified, and given how the Premier League have sought to beat down the Toffees in recent months, another unjust verdict could soon be just around the corner.

It seems like they keep seeming to suffer setback after setback, yet they remain the frontrunners to snag the coveted sleeping giant. Their persistence is admirable, and could pay off in the new year.

However, with fears detailed elsewhere regarding the legitimacy of the potential buyers, and X user Paul ‘The Esk’ Quinn even outlining how FCA approval means little, it seems this latest news is merely a tiny step on what has been a very long road so far.
