Jamie Vardy has emerged as a target Everton that are considering this summer.

According to FootballTransfers, Everton are in the market for up to two strikers in this transfer window, and are weighing up a move for Jamie Vardy. Moussa Dembele is another name on the Toffees’ shortlist.

Sean Dyche will be desperate to land a new number 9, as last season Neal Maupay, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and the recently departed Ellis Simms managed just 4 Premier League strikes between them. This lack of goals was one of the main reasons the club were in real danger of relegation right up until the final day of the season.

However, it would be a bold decision to rely on Vardy, at this stage in his career, to effectively address Everton’s goalscoring woes.

Vardy is not the answer

Vardy’s place in Premier League history is assured. He is a Leicester City legend having fired the Foxes to Premier League and FA Cup glory in the past. However, he was unable to prevent the club succumbing to relegation last time out.

At 36-years-old, Vardy is past his best. The 26-cap former England international could only manage 3 league goals last season. Dyche needs a signing to take Everton’s ailing strikeforce to the next level. Someone who can be relied upon to score with regularity. Vardy is no longer that man.

Everton have already made one very questionable decision this summer by bringing in veteran full-back Ashley Young on a free transfer. That move shows a lack of long-term thinking that doesn’t bode well. If they were to bring in Vardy too, the club would risk making the same mistake twice in quick succession.
