Everton could be about to narrowly avoid further FFP punishment according to finance expert Kieran Maguire.
At Goodison Park, financial issues have led to a precarious situation this season. This was highlighted at the back end of last year when the Premier League handed Everton a 10-point deduction.
This saw Sean Dyche‘s strong early-season work undone as the Toffees were dragged right back into relegation dog fight and despite a terrific four-game winning streak last month, they are just a point above the drop.
The real concern however which has been looming is the prospect of further punishment from the league, a punishment which would be based on last year’s accounts.
However yesterday, The Esk claimed that this wouldn’t be the case and that Everton would avoid further punishment. Now, there is further reason to be positive as finance expert Kieran Maguire gave his verdict.

Kieran Maguire gives Everton FFP update
Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast, The Price of Football, Maguire gave his verdict on Everton’s financial situation and highlighted one decision which could have saved the club from getting additional punishment.
Maguire explained that he’s heard that one Premier League side is set to be charged later this month potentially before he shared his view on whether it’ll be Everton.
“The speculation is that club [about to be charged] could be A) Everton who would be charged for last season’s accounts.”
Continuing, Maguire explained why Everton should be fine this time around.
“I got the spreadsheet out and Everton I think will be just about okay, because they’ve sold Anthony Gordon and we’ve always said if you sell one of your academy players [it counts as pure profit].”
Gordon was sold in January 2023 for £45 million which represented pure profit and would have gone a long way toward solving these concerns.
Is this the end of Everton’s FFP problems?
Ultimately this very well could be the end of Everton’s financial woes as they have been acting in a far more sensible manner in recent seasons.
This will allow the club to begin to think about making some signings in January possibly but definitely next summer.
Another big sale for the Toffees would likely create a substantial amount of breathing room and could also allow for some of the tipped targets in January to be moved toward which could be huge in the survival fight.
