Everton will stay in the Premier League this season.
That’s according to Jamie Carragher, who thinks this is an ideal time for Everton to be hit with the point deduction… if there is one.
Everton were docked ten points yesterday after they were found guilty of breaching financial fair play rules. The Toffees posted losses of £124.5 million over a three-year period up to the 2021-22 season – around £20m more than the Premier League will permit.
After being referred to an independent regulator by the Premier League, the Merseyside outfit were handed the significant punishment that has since been criticised by pundits and fans.
While Everton have confirmed that they will appeal the decision and could well receive a smaller point deduction, Jamie Carragher thinks Sean Dyche‘s side will avoid relegation anyway.
Writing for The Telegraph, Carragher said: “On a dark day for Everton, here is some good news: they will stay in the Premier League this season.

“The club may find it hard to identify that silver lining amid the gloom of a 10-point deduction and it is understandable they will appeal against the verdict.
“There is a consolation, however. If there was ever a year to be hit with this kind of punishment, this is it. There are three teams worse than Everton who do not look capable of taking advantage of their plight.
Will Everton avoid relegation?
“Everton could be out of the bottom three after their next game, when Manchester United will visit Goodison Park and feel the full fury of a club and fanbase believing they have been harshly treated.”
Everton’s ten-point deduction takes them from 14th place to 19th in the Premier League table, two points from safety.
The Toffees’ situation is far from ideal, but it could be a lot worse and their recent improvement in form means that only one win could take them back out of the relegation zone.
Burnley, Luton Town and Sheffield United only have one victory each so far – that’s one less than Everton alone.
The Toffees are comfortably the best of the bunch and it would be a big surprise if they didn’t manage to make up the two points even before Christmas. However, any chance of a mid-table finish are probably over, with tenth place Chelsea now 12 points ahead of them.
It is very frustrating that their brilliant recent performances now feel like they have gone unrewarded, however they could have been much further adrift at the bottom of the table in different circumstances.
