Everton told why they should take a 12-point deduction right ‘now’

Everton will be desperate to avoid a potential sanction, given just how damaging it might be to their future safety.

Having toed the line so finely in recent years, Sean Dyche finally seems set to offer stability, with his side revitalised under his leadership.

However, that could all change were they to be handed the touted 12-point deduction for financial misconduct; a punishment that would land at Farhad Moshiri’s feet on the eve of his potential sale of the club to 777 Partners.

The Miami-based firm remains interested in this distressed asset despite all the unrest surrounding Goodison Park, likely seeking to capitalise on their lowest moment to turn a profit in the distant future.

Despite this, TalkSPORT host and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge seems to think that accepting the sanction could be the smartest move, to get it out of the way during their best run of form in recent years.

He would take to X, formerly Twitter, to write: ‘If I was Everton I’d take that 12 point deduction now. Probably the first season in ages you can take a hit like that and stay up. Even with a 12 point deduction they could be out the bottom 4 by Christmas’.

What would a points deduction mean for Everton?

If there was ever a year to be dealt with such a landmark punishment, it is certainly this one.

After all, were they to have lost 12 points last year, or even the season earlier, they would have gone down with ease given they only survived by four and two points respectively across those campaigns.

However, things feel somewhat different this term, with their form having been rekindled and all the figures pointing towards it being a profitable year.

They are creating chances whilst keeping it solid at the back, with Sean Dyche reaping the rewards of a side he has instilled with confidence once again.

Having won six of their last nine, and already eight points clear of the drop, Goldbridge’s claim about their likelihood of safety remaining high is correct.

And yet, it would be disingenuous not to fight the charges, given whatever punishment Everton are handed will have to be intensified for Manchester City.

It would set a supremely dangerous precedent, and so the Premier League face a stand-off with the Toffees to see who cracks first.
