Everton youngster in ‘advanced talks’ to join EFL club on permanent transfer just days after senior debut

An Everton youngster appears to be on the verge of joining an EFL club after being spotted in the stands watching a pre-season friendly.

Everton have a number of talented players coming through their academy, with Harrison Armstrong flying that flag at the moment.

Asmir Begovic reckons Armstrong will become a ‘special’ player and the coaches around Finch Farm share that same sentiment.

Moyes has been told Martin Sherif will be a future star, although, he’s not quite as far developed as Armstrong, who enjoyed a productive six-month loan at Derby County last term.

That said, one of Everton’s other young talents is now close to sealing a permanent move away from Merseyside.

Everton youngster Jason Metcalfe set to join Bradford City

Jenson Metcalfe, who spent last season on loan at League Two outfit Chesterfield, has been at Everton for 15 years.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been a regular for the under-21s over the last few years, but there’s been no breakthrough to the first team in a competitive fixture.

As such, it’s now being reported by El Bobble that Metcalfe is in ‘advanced talks’ to join League One side Bradford City on a permanent deal.

According to the Telegraph and Argus, Metcalfe was spotted in the stands at Valley Parade watching Bradford’s pre-season friendly against Middlesbrough last night.

Bradford manager remains coy on Metcalfe deal

Bradford manager Graham Alexander was asked about Metcalfe after City’s 2-0 win against Boro, but he remained coy.

“I don’t know, Alexander said. “I’ve just been focusing on the game.

“Every matchday, everyone leaves me alone to concentrate on that game. I know it’s pre-season but it’s just about the game.

“We’re not looking for a big influx of players. We’re probably after two right now to improve us as a squad and bring in extra quality and competition.”

Metcalfe did get some minutes for Moyes’ side in pre-season, but evidently didn’t do enough to impress the Scotsman.

Justin Clarke really impressed Everton fans, though, as did Isaac Heath, who could play a role in the first team this season.
