Everton have come a long way over the last year since David Moyes replaced Sean Dyche.

When Sean Dyche was in charge, Everton were staring down the barrel of a first-ever Premier League relegation.

So, the Friedkin Group made the bold decision, at the time, to sack Dyche and replace him with David Moyes on January the 11th 2025.

Should Everton extend David Moyes’ deal beyond 2027 or replace him?

Moyes suffered defeat in his first game against Aston Villa, but managed to beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 exactly a year ago yesterday.

With that said, here’s how the Premier League table looked then compared to now, evincing how much progress has been made.

Everton’s Premier League position this time last year

Exactly one year ago, Everton were residing 16th in the Premier League table, only five points above the relegation zone.

The Toffees were fresh off the back of just their fourth victory of the season, which evinces how dire it was under Dyche.

Compare that to now, and the change is drastic, as Moyes’ side have won more than double the amount of games and are looking up towards the European spots.

It’s also worth considering that injuries and AFCON absences have really impacted results recently, and yet the points tally is still significantly higher.

David Moyes is doing a fantastic job at Everton

There has been some criticism aimed at Moyes this season and a section of supporters have even called for him to depart at various points of the season.

But, it’s pretty clear, based on the table comparison, that he’s building a side that’s constantly improving over time.

It may be frustrating to see some of the new signings benched, and perhaps the football isn’t the most glamorous at times, but there are clear indications that Everton are on the right path under the Scotsman.

With a bit more quality added this month, there’s no reason why the Toffees can’t break into the top seven and go on a European tour next season.

Exciting times lie ahead on Merseyside.
