Everton are apparently trying to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Neto, according to reports in Spain.

Sport claim that Neto’s agent is currently fielding attention from Goodison Park.

Barcelona want more than €15 million (£12.8 million) for the 32-year-old. That has put off Europa League winners Villarreal.

On top of that, Neto apparently would prefer to move to Arsenal rather than come to Everton.

Everton don’t need him

Jordan Pickford has had a sensational 2020, culminating in an imperious European Championship.

He is firmly first choice again after some instability last season.

Asmir Begovic has been brought in to offer experienced backup, with Premier League knowhow.

Why do Everton need Neto? Especially at more than £12.8 million. This is one for the Toffees to miss.

Arsenal need a goalkeeper far more urgently. Whoever they buy could challenge Bernt Leno.

It would work better for all parties if he went there and Everton focused the remainder of their month on areas of the pitch which need reinforcement.
