Sean Dyche has claimed that James Garner has massively improved since last season.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the Everton boss praised Garner and added that he was ‘excellent’ following today’s win over Bournemouth.

The 22-year-old was once again a key part in the Toffees’ brilliant display at Goodison Park, netting his first Premier League goal inside ten minutes.

Everton were desperate to bounce back from their disappointing loss to Luton Town and they responded immediately, with Garner making it two goals in three games after his first for the club against Aston Villa.

The midfielder initially struggled for game time following his move from Manchester United last summer and struggled with injuries before Dyche’s arrival.

However, the former Burnley manager brought him in at right-back for the final run in and he played an important role in keeping Everton up.

Garner has now shifted between central midfield and a wider position this time round, but has continued to impress and looks better every game.

Dyche admitted he has liked the look of Garner and praised his ‘great’ finish.

“He’s grown from his performances last season,” Dyche said.

“Him and Amadou [Onana] were excellent in midfield, Jack Harrison as well. Just a number of very good performances today.

“It’s a great finish, he stayed very calm. he got his goal against Villa as well so it’s good to see him getting forward.”

Garner in the centre is what we have been waiting for

There has been plenty of calls for James Garner to be brought back into his natural position in the middle of the park and he has now struck twice since being moved further infield.

Dyche seems to still be unsure about what his best midfield three is, but it seems very clear that Garner has to be in there.

The quality of Harrison so far puts less pressure on the right wing option and should allow Garner to thrive in a position that seems to suit him so well.
