Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has been impressive in recent months, and his strong form has earned him a new contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 30-year-old has become an important figure under Sean Dyche in midfield, and with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, both he and the club had a decision to make.

Doucoure has made 106 appearances for Everton since his arrival from Watford in 2020, and will now be set to stay for longer.

Romano reveals Doucoure deal

Romano has now confirmed that Doucoure is set to put pen to paper on his new deal shortly, which will run until 2025, with an option to extend by a year. It is unclear if this will see him increase his £120k-per-week salary.

“Abdoulaye Doucouré, set to sign new deal at Everton very soon,” Romano tweeted.

“Understand agreement’s on the verge of being sealed over new contract until June 2025. Option until June 2026 will be included. Deal at final stages, set to be completed.”

The midfielder has been a crucial player under Dyche, and has put in some phenomenal displays in the middle of the park.

He was described as “excellent” following his strong performance in the Merseyside derby defeat at Anfield last week, and he has scored 13 times for the club.

Losing him for free could have been a big blow, as Everton may have struggled to find someone of his quality and with his experience, and this new contract comes as a boost during a difficult period for the club.

Doucoure and Amadou Onana have both been strong performers under Dyche, and these two will be key as Everton bid to fight off the threat of relegation again.

If Everton do go down, then Doucoure’s new contract would allow them to earn some money from a departure, or keep him in the Championship, and losing him for free after a potential relegation would have been a disaster.
