Everton have already enjoyed a rather profitable transfer window, having strengthened the squad despite already overseeing two departures.
It was widely expected that, if they were to buy this summer, some sales would be needed.
But, it was refreshing to see those come in the form of two players just outside the first team, thus making their exits far more manageable.
In years gone by, the Toffees would have been forced into allowing their prized assets to depart to bigger clubs, but a renewed mindset has seen them act with far more steel despite Amadou Onana’s transfer to Aston Villa an expected but accepted sacrifice.
And now, they could be set to reap the ultimate rewards for their hard-faced attitude.
Everton set to offer Jarrad Branthwaite new contract
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who has actually detailed an update on Jarrad Branthwaite’s future after intense interest from Manchester United this summer.
It looked for all the world like this would be the sale that Everton were forced into, as the path from Goodison Park to Old Trafford is one far too many players have taken over the years.
But, despite apparent financial pressure, the Toffees have not been moved.
Rejecting two admittedly pitiful bids, the Red Devils were forced to look elsewhere, and it was widely expected that the 22-year-old would remain on Merseyside for at least another year.

Now, according to the Italian transfer journalist, that stay could be extended further, as he writes: ‘Everton are preparing new contract proposal for Jarrad Branthwaite after rejecting two proposals from Manchester United. Club determined to keep Branthwaite unless huge bid arrives but Man United have no intention to pay £75/80m.
‘New deal proposal to be sent this summer.’
Everton’s best signing of the summer
If Everton are to get this deal over the line and tie Jarrad Branthwaite down again, less than a year after the England international already signed a new contract, it could prove to be their signing of the summer.
After all, it is worth thinking of it like this for an added positive spin: there is no way that the Toffees, given their current position, would be able to go out and just purchase a player of Branthwaite’s calibre in the market.
For a start, he is a left-footed centre-back, which already makes him unique, but being tall, strong, fast and English only reaffirms his status as a prized asset.
With already a few years of experience at the top level too, that value only continues to rise. The fact that they placed a £75m price tag on him should speak volumes for his true valuation, and thus how lucky Everton are to have him.

So, instead of having to go out and source a replacement for the irreplaceable, this new contract would just reaffirm what they already have, which is all those starring aforementioned assets.
Branthwaite is a huge reason why the Toffees avoided the drop with such ease last season for the first time in years. Keeping him for one, or many more years, would be a monumental coup for Sean Dyche and Thelwell.
