Arnaut Danjuma could be about to leave Everton in the January transfer window.

Everton had spent over six months chasing Arnaut Danjuma when they finally landed him on a season-long loan last summer. However, things haven’t quite gone to plan.

The Dutchman made a positive impact in the early stages of his move to Goodison Park, as he was hailed as a ‘spark‘ in an otherwise disappointing start to the campaign for The Toffees.

However, Danjuma only made three starts before he lost his place in the starting line-up and has now only managed 96 minutes of action in the Premier League since.

Despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison only managing seven goals between them, Danjuma’s opportunities to impress have been extremely limited and he could now well cut his stay on Merseyside short.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Olympique Lyon have ‘genuine interest’ in Danjuma this month. Parties are yet to advance with talks, but the French outfit will look to pursue a deal ‘in the next days’.

While the journalist has claimed that Everton are yet to make a ‘decision’, it could be down to Villarreal as to whether they see more benefit of recalling him and sending him somewhere where he will play more games.

Lyon currently sit two points above the relegation play-offs in Ligue 1, though they look like they may have turned a corner after winning their last three matches.

Alexandre Lacazette is currently their only forward to have scored more than one goal, while they have the third lowest tally in the French top division.

How would Everton fare without Arnaut Danjuma?

Arnaut Danjuma definitely hasn’t been given enough of a chance at Goodison Park, just like his loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur last season.

Everton could really do with another attacking reinforcement before they see the back of Danjuma though, with the lack of squad depth behind the likes of McNeil and Harrison quite concerning. Sean Dyche doesn’t really have any other wingers to choose from and has often played James Garner out wide.

There have been reports today claiming that The Toffees are close to agreeing a short-term deal for Jesse Lingard though, which could potentially make way for Danjuma’s exit.

The former Manchester United man certainly isn’t the most exciting transfer, but the free agent could prove to be a useful squad player.
