The United Kingdom and Ireland have now been confirmed as the host countries for Euro 2028, and Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock is set to be one of the host grounds.

Everton have beaten Liverpool’s stadium, Anfield, to the hosting rights in Merseyside, and the ground will be the fifth-largest at the tournament, ahead of Newcastle’s St James’ Park.

The news will be met with great excitement from Everton fans and the local community, with Everton set to host some of the biggest names and games in International football.

Seamus Coleman delighted with announcement

Speaking to Everton club media following the announcement that Everton’s new stadium was selected as a host, defender Seamus Coleman expressed his delight at the potential impact the decision can have on the club and community.

“It’s fantastic news for the city of Liverpool and my home nation,” Coleman stated.

“Everton Stadium hosting international games is really special for the Club, and it seems only right that this welcoming, diverse city is part of the tournament as football is such a huge part of people’s lives here.

“Hosting games in Ireland will be incredible too. It’ll be a real reward for football fans there who will bring their own unique passion and colour to the spectacle.”

Although many will be gutted at leaving such a historic stadium in Goodison Park, the decision to award Everton with tournament hosting rights shows the potential impact the new stadium can make on the club.

The Everton Stadium is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, and by the time the Euros comes to Merseyside, it will likely be viewed as one of the best stadiums in England.

Everton now need to make sure that performances on the pitch can match the quality of their surroundings. The potential to grow as a club given the increase in revenue they will see, could help Everton improve their average league position and begin to challenge for honours, after years of disappointment.
