Farhad Moshiri’s five best signings at Everton – ranked

Everton have endured many highs and lows under Farhad Moshiri.

The Toffees have experienced European nights and relegation dogfights all throughout his eight-year reign.

Moshiri joined in 2016 and immediately gave the club a cash injection in the transfer market, though, many of the signings had varying degrees of success.

Ultimately, Everton’s heavy spending ended up putting them in financial bother as they breached Premier League regulations, which resulted in two separate points deductions.

They are still recovering from that now and look set to be involved in another fight to survive ahead of their stadium move to Bramley Docks.

With all that said, Everton News has decided to pick out the positive moments of Moshiri’s eight-and-a-half-year tenure, as we rank his five best signings.

Farhad Moshiri’s best signings at Everton

5 – Amadou Onana

Everton paid Lille £33m for midfielder Amadou Onana and it was certainly money well spent.

The Belgium international became a fixture of Sean Dyche’s midfield and was imperative in helping them avoid the drop in successive seasons during a tough period.

Onana went on to join Aston Villa in a £50m deal. Tidy profit.

4 – Jarrad Branthwaite

Many forget that Jarrad Branthwaite didn’t actually come through the academy, in fact, Everton signed him for £1m from Carlisle United.

That’s turned out to be very shrewd business as he’s become one of the most promising centre-backs in the Premier League.

Manchester United have been linked with a £70m deal for Branthwaite.

3 – Idrissa Gueye

£7m is all Everton paid Aston Villa for Idrissa Gueye in 2016.

That turned out to be a bargain as he would go on to become one of the best ball-winning midfielders in Europe.

Gueye was so impressive, he earned a move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain, who outlaid £30m on his signature.

Everton resigned him in 2022 and he’s still proving his quality, aged 35.

2 – Richarlison

Richarlison was a fan favourite for many years following his switch from Watford and his goals saved Everton from relegation in 2022.

That year he netted 10 times in 30 outings, with many of them coming towards the back end of the year at the most crucial time.

Ultimately, Richarlison left for Tottenham in a sizable deal that would’ve really eased Everton’s financial woes. Good business.

1 – Jordan Pickford

And, the best signing of the Moshiri era, Jordan Pickford.

A stalwart for Everton over seven and a half years and widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the division.

Pickford has paid back the £30m spent on him and more, saving the Merseysiders tens of points every season.

England’s number one.
