Everton are a club still very much in disarray, even if they avoided the drop by some distance last season.

After all, their turmoil was not reserved solely for their performances in the Premier League, although it did not help, but also what was going on behind the scenes.

Specifically, on the takeover front.

With new unpredictable twists and turns sending fans of the club in every direction, it seems nobody really knows what is going on with this ownership debacle.

The least they can do is hope that John Textor, who is the latest frontrunner for the post, can finally iron out the details that have stopped others from succeeding.

Finance expert reviews John Textor’s Everton takeover

Writing for CaughtOffside, they enlisted the help of finance expert and one of football’s first-ever agents, Jon Smith, to delve into the Premier League’s most interesting stories.

Naturally, the Toffees’ ongoing takeover took precedence, and he would specifically comment on John Textor’s interest in buying Everton when touching on the topic.

He claimed: ‘Everton is a fascinating melting pot of decisions that perhaps should have been made in a different manner, and financial management that perhaps should have been a little bit more adroit.

‘It’s a club that needs a major clear up, however, the stadium is amazing. It’s like a little city in itself which will operate seven days a week, and I think that can only be good.

‘I think John Textor has enough financial muscle and experience to be able to re-establish Everton as a major contender but that’s going to take a few years, probably four or five, and he has to completely ring-fence his Crystal Palace shareholding too, which I believe is 41% and so not a small holding.

‘In terms of whether John Textor is the right man for the job, he’s certainly got experience and, importantly, he knows the business of football. He will be one of the more interesting groups of multi-ownerships, that’s for sure.

‘But if I was an Evertonian – and I wouldn’t expect miracles for the first 24/36 months – it’s going to need a little bit of a little bit of patience, but at least John Textor knows the business.’

What is the latest on Everton’s takeover?

Admittedly, on the takeover front, we are almost back where we were before with Dan Friedkin.

And therefore, it is all quiet.

Textor entered into a period of exclusivity with Farhad Moshiri just under a week ago, with the aim of buying a majority stake in the Merseyside club.

However, as he remains still very much involved with Crystal Palace, he not only all the pitfalls that come with navigating Everton’s situation, but also the additional hurdles that are involved with selling those shares first as well.

He currently owns 45% of the Eagles.

Textor has been a long-time admirer of Everton, and vocal about how he plans to take the club forward should he get in charge.
