Everton welcomed Tottenham Hotspur to Goodison Park on Saturday at lunchtime in the Premier League.
On a February afternoon at Goodison Park, Spurs wasted absolutely no time before going ahead as Richarlison scored on his return to Everton.
After this, Everton managed to bring it level through Jack Harrison – albeit he had little say in the goal.
This didn’t last long though as the Brazilian ex-Toffee once more put it past Jordan Pickford with an incredible striker from the edge of the box.
But, in the dying moments, Everton snatched a point through Jarrad Branthwaite who scored from a freekick.
That’s ultimately how it ended, so here’s five things we learned as Everton left the relegation zone…

Relegation shouldn’t be a concern this season for Everton
Showing the heart and perseverance to earn a draw here against a side like Spurs is absolutely huge for Sean Dyche and his Everton side.
It’s a massive confidence boost and should be a catalyst which sees them soon leave worries of relegation a distant concern.
The Toffees went head to head with Spurs and that isnt an easy thing to do. But to do so and probably be the better side, shows Everton don’t belong in the relegation zone.
Finally VAR gets it right
VAR often is at the forefront of discussions for the wrong reasons, but today it did it’s job on two occassions.
Everton’s first goal was reviewed with a possible offside being cited but ultimately upon replay, it became apparent that the referee and VAR were right to award the goal.
Later in the game, VAR would also get the second goal decision correct which handed Everton a massive point.
It comes as a pleasant change from the usual post game reflection on VAR, although if either goal was ruled out, it’d have been a scandalous decision.
Dyche might’ve found his new midfield duo
The midfield at Goodison has undergone a real injury woed season this campaign but the duo who started today were impressive.
Idrissa Gueye and James Garner started and both managed to achieve solid match ratings on SofaScore.
In a game Everton were very strong in grabbing a vital point, these two were extremely important and give Everton the edge needed to compete with Spurs.
Everton make it two unbeaten
After a poor run of form, Everton had to put an end to the losses and begin picking up points once more which over the past two games they have done.
Two back to back draws might be less that the Toffees actually deserved – arguably could’ve won both – however they are two points which were necessary.
In particualr the draw against Spurs has handed Dyche an all important point that lifts Everton outside of the relegation zone – for now.
Set pieces are the way forward for the Toffees
With such a physcial and tall side, Everton’s strengths lie in set pieces. This was apparent today with both goals coming through their tall and aerially dominant players.
This is where Dyche should focus Everton’s efforts going forward. It may not be the most visually pleasing way to play football, but this season is all about surviving.
Let’s hope this continues going forward.
