Former Everton boss Frank Lampard ‘could take over’ non-European side in new managerial role

It’s safe to say that Frank Lampard did not have the best time as manager of Everton.

Frank Lampard was brought in by the Toffees in January 2023, following the departure of Rafa Benitez. The move was a strange one, considering the turmoil he’d faced at fellow Premier League side, Chelsea.

The former England midfielder replicated his poor performances at his playing club in Merseyside, arguably worsening. He ended up being sacked a year later with a terrible record of 44 games, 24 defeats, 12 wins and 8 draws for Everton – one of the worst records in the club’s history.

The manager and his coaching staff were waved on. He has since been back at Chelsea, but after their recent appointment of Mauricio Pochettino – he’s been out of a job ever since.

Frank Lampard ‘could take over’ Charlotte FC

The Athletic reports that Frank Lampard is among the finalists for Charlotte FC’s head coaching vacancy. They aim to have a coach by late December ahead of pre-season kicking off in January.

The report states they are nearing the end of the interview process, with the former Toffees boss up there with some of the names seriously in mind.

Lampard finished his legendary playing career in the MLS with NYCFC. This would seemingly mean the 45-year-old would have no problem relocating back to the United States.

Lampard will have former Premier League competition

Lampard will have competition from a familiar face in the Premier League. Former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith also appears to be one of the candidates that are among the finalists.

Smith led Aston Villa to Premier League promotion in 2019 and remained with the club until November 2021 – when he was replaced by Unai Emery.

Smith’s impressive footballing CV will be tough competition for Lampard, but the Chelsea icon’s knowledge of the league from his playing days could put him in the ascendency for the role. Time will tell.
