Everton duo Jarrad Branthwaite and Jordan Pickford are with the England squad ahead of the Three Lions’ friendly fixtures against Brazil and Belgium.

Branthwaite, 21, received his first call-up to Gareth Southgate’s senior squad and should play a part over the coming weeks. There’s certainly an opportunity for the youngster, with John Stones’ central defensive partner by no means set in stone ahead of this summer’s European Championships.

As for Pickford, the fixtures against Brazil and Belgium will provide good tests ahead of this summer’s tournament.

The squad joined up on Tuesday and began training this week.

And, for Evertonians, an interesting guest was present at St George’s Park.

Former Everton boss spotted with Gareth Southgate

Former Everton boss Frank Lampard was spotted alongside Southgate on Wednesday afternoon, having been invited to England’s training base.

The Times’ chief football correspondent, Henry Winter, shares the latest.

“Gareth Southgate, Frank Lampard, John McDermott, Joe Edwards and Kobbie Mainoo. McDermott, FA technical director, invited Lampard and Edwards to watch #ENG training at St George’s Park today,” he wrote via his personal X account.

Will Frank Lampard succeed as a manager after Everton nightmare?

Lampard’s tenure at Goodison Park was ill-fated. From the moment he walked through the doors, the former Chelsea boss knew it would be tough.

He was hamstrung from the outset, and the now well-documented FFP constraints played a part in his time at the club.

Talking about his initial tenure at the club, the 45-year-old admitted feeling pressure. Speaking to YouTube Channel JOE, he said: “It was a typical situation where you may get a job mid-season, and something is not quite right, but the feeling of doom and this club may go down for the first time in many, many years – which is a real proud thing for Evertonians that they haven’t been relegated – but there was a feeling of now maybe we will.”

Taking time out of the game seems like an intelligent call for now. His second spell at Chelsea couldn’t have gone any worse, so there’s something he needs to rectify before taking his next job.

Nevertheless, Evertonians will wish Lampard well in his next venture; he came across well to most of the Goodison Park faithful and saved the Toffees during the 2021/22 campaign.
