Everton splashed the cash during the 2017 summer transfer window, but there was little success to speak of from the spending spree.
2016 brought Farhad Moshiri’s arrival at Everton and the appointment of Ronald Koeman.
A 7th-placed finish in Koeman’s first season represented a promising start, but his second season was a much tougher challenge.
Romelu Lukaku was sold to Manchester United, and while Everton spent big money on new signings, many additions failed to live up to the billing.

Sandro Ramirez failed to live up to his potential at Everton
Davy Klaassen proved to be a waste of money, Henry Onyekuru never even played for Everton due to work permit issues, and Nikola Vlasic failed to click at Goodison Park.
Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane have stood the test of time, but the 2017 summer window will forever feel like a missed opportunity for Everton.
Everton also took a chance on Sandro Ramirez, signing the forward in a £5.2million move from Malaga.
Sandro came through at Barcelona but showed major talent with Malaga, scoring 16 goals in 31 appearances.
Everton snapped him up, but Sandro’s time on Merseyside was truly miserable, playing only 16 games and scoring just once.
Former Everton scout Dave Worthington has now commented on his career and looked back on his time with the Toffees.
Speaking to The Athletic, Worthington named some of the players he recommended to Everton, but also players who failed to live up to their billing.
Sandro was one of those major disappointments, alongside the likes of Moustapha Bayal Sall and Lucas Evangelista.
Worthington specifically picked out Sandro as a target for Everton, but the Spaniard just couldn’t adjust to life in the Premier League.
That just goes to show that scouting is not an exact science, and for every great recommendation, there are bound to be players who just don’t click.

Where is former Everton striker Sandro now?
Sandro was worth a gamble at just £5.2million, but it just didn’t work out for him at Everton.
The forward spent time out on loan at Sevilla, Real Sociedad and Real Valladolid, with limited success.
Sandro left Everton permanently in 2020, joining Huesca before loan spells with Getafe and Las Palmas.
Now a permanent Las Palmas player, Sandro has scored 17 goals in 81 games for his hometown club.
The 30-year-old has never really been able to match his Malaga success from almost 10 years ago, and will sadly go down as something of an Everton flop.
