Frank Lampard claims he didn’t know what Farhad Moshiri’s strategy at Everton was

Everton, under Farhad Moshiri, have been a directionless club seemingly doomed to forever fail to crack the traditional top six.

And whilst those often-successful sides have suffered highs and lows themselves, it has always been the Toffees failing to make an impact and take that next step towards a progressive future.

Well, if anything now that mid-table obscurity is craved by a fanbase seemingly set to endure a third straight relegation battle, with Sean Dyche the latest enlisted to save them from the drop.

Having taken over from Frank Lampard, the former Chelsea midfielder endured a torrid 12 months in charge of a club wrapped in turmoil. He was far from successful, but few could possibly have been in their conditions.

Now, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, he has revealed all about the lack of strategy that has plagued the club for years.

What Frank Lampard said about Farhad Moshiri

It should come as a surprise to no Evertonian to learn that their Iranian owner had no plan.

It has been clear as day, with the steady regression of his historic institution only made possible by his inability to ignore the big-name options in favour of those who might fit a more intelligent mould.

Of the many managers he has hired, few boast similar play styles, leading to a squad spliced together all working towards different goals.

Well, this was a notion Lampard sought to outline, as he told Jamie Carragher, when asked what Moshiri’s strategy was: ‘I’m not exactly sure about that.

‘I’m not saying that too loosely because I came into it at probably four, five years he’d been there before. But you can see that it had been four managers, Marco Silva, Roberto Martinez, Carlo Ancelotti, Benitez, Big Sam. So really, high-level managers when you go through, Champions League winners etc.

‘And I came in and you could see with the squad that there wasn’t a strategy. I wasn’t sure what it was.’

Have Everton ever had a strategy under Farhad Moshiri?

Such a suggestion could have easily been outlined by any Everton fan, but to hear it from a former manager who was only relieved of his duties last year is shocking.

The disapproving groans from his co-pundits when revealing this information speak volumes for just how well-known Moshiri’s discrepancies at the club have been.

And the numbers don’t lie either.

Seven managers have come and gone, with Dyche the latest to throw his hat into the ring. However, the conditions he has inherited have been unlike anything ever seen in the top flight.

Having spent over £700m on transfers already, and counting, their steps towards renewed sustainability in recent years are seeking to offset over half a decade of misspending.

Lampard has merely outlined what many of us already know, and has further reinforced the need for new ownership.
