After sealing promotion to the Premier League, Frank Lampard is keen to sign former Everton midfielder Ross Barkley at Coventry City.

Everton supporters will get to welcome back another former manager next season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Taking to his Patreon account, Alan Nixon claimed Barkley is of interest to Lampard at Coventry City.

The 32-year-old departed Merseyside back in 2018, where he joined Chelsea for a fee of around £15m.

Barkley has been playing his football at Aston Villa this season and was given a rare start at the weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.

Lampard could secure the signing of the former Everton academy graduate on a free transfer, with his deal at Villa Park expiring in the coming weeks.

Duncan Ferguson looked after Barkley during his time in the academy at Finch Farm, with the Everton hero often taking the young Barkley home after training.

Barkley played 179 times for Everton, which is still considerably more than he has done for any other club in his career.

With Lampard keen to secure his services, the midfielder could soon be about to sign for his eighth senior club.
