Everton’s ninth summer signing is almost completed, with the services of Freiburg central midfielder Merlin Rohl joining the ranks.
The 23-year-old German star is looking very promising and has been at the forefront of Everton’s 2025 deadline day.
After being a success at Freiburg, the German under-21 international is undergoing his medical as we speak.
Rohl has said goodbye to his teammates, with David Moyes finally getting that desired midfield position sorted this window.
But there is a twist in the move, as despite it being claimed that the fee had been agreed, all may not be as it seems.

Everton will be signing Merlin Rohl on a loan-to-buy deal worth £21.6m
It was previously suggested that Rohl was joining for £17 million, but this doesn’t appear to be the case.
After talks with the Bundesliga club, Sky Sports Germany reporter, Florian Plettenberg, has revealed what the actual agreement in the deal is.
It’s said that Rohl is taking his medical, as a resolution has been met with Freiburg.
Rohl will sign a loan-to-buy option at Everton worth £21.6 million, which is smart business from the Blues.
It’s a similar structure to Carlos Alcaraz’s January move, who arrived on a loan deal originally, before completing a £12.6 million move to Merseyside.
The midfielder will become a Toffees player, and the player Rohl has been compared to should excite Evertonians.

Soon-to-be Everton star Merlin Rohl is similar to Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka
Not much is known about the 23-year-old, but the versatile midfielder comes with a good comparison.
The Bundesliga website has said that the Freiburg star shares similarities with Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka, who is known to be a world-class player.
His passing is what stands out, as he can provide an attacking option as well as being a strong tackler.
The German looks like the full package, and if he’s anything like Goretzka, then the Toffees have the real deal.
Everton fans think Rohl is a ‘serious player’ and, under Moyes, he has the chance to fulfil his potential.
